DESIGN-BUILD-RACE

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Who are TAU Racing?

TAU (Team Aberdeen University) Racing  was founded in 2007 by a group of 10 undergraduate engineering students at the University of Aberdeen with the goal of designing, building and racing a single-seat formula student car in the IMechE Formula Student competition at Silverstone Circuit.

Since then, the team has grown into a multidisciplinary society of over 60 members across engineering, business, finance and media. Together, students work collaboratively to develop a competitive race car while gaining hands-on experience in design, manufacturing, marketing and project management.

TAU Racing provides students with the opportunity to apply classroom theory to a fast-paced real-world engineering project, helping members develop valuable technical, professional and leadership skills alongside their studies.

What is formula student?

Formula Student is a student engineering competition run by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers at Silverstone Circuit.

The competition challenges university teams from around the world to design, build and race a single-seat formula style race car. Teams compete in a range of static and dynamic events, including engineering design, cost and business presentations, acceleration, skid pad, autocross and endurance.

Formula Student is designed to test not only the performance of the car, but also the teamwork, planning and engineering behind it.
